Chiquicha for Services and Then Back to Quito

We travelled to Chiquicha for services on Sunday afternoon. It is near Ambato. It is not far from Riobamba, but it takes an hour to get there. We travelled in Milton's Toyota truck. Five in the cab and three in the back. The service theme was from John 8:12, Jesus is the light of the world.

It is almost a custom to stop and buy some chicken for the service guests. Rotisserie chicken costs about twice as much as in the US, at about $14 per whole chicken. It makes some sense, however, because many Ecuadorians don't have ovens to cook in.

On the outskirts of the city of Ambato
there is a favorite stop for chicken.

The services were held at the home of Patricio and Sonia Martinez. Patricio is a brother to Milton. They live on a small farm which produces vegetables. They also have two small man made ponds in which they are raising fish from the minnow size to a saleable size of 12" or so.

Patricio and Sonia live near the bottom of a valley with steep sides. The approach is a series of switch backs on a gravel road. It is a beautiful setting. Avis suggested I take a picture of the valley. I didn't since it would be like taking a picture of a mountain. A small digital camera like I have wouldn't do justice to the setting or its beauty.

An ancient yoke of oxen hangs over the bedroom door.

Knowing them now for several years I would say they are 'yoked' well in their marriage and are pulling together in the same direction. They as many believers in different parts of the world have been able to overcome the adversities of life through faith.

We completed our weekend of services and discussion by taking the bus from Ambato to Quito. The trip was about two and a half hours. The cost was $4.00 total. Veronica Ayala was there waiting for us at the Quitumbe bus terminal to safely guide us 'home.'
