Face to Face (Time)

Modern technology has made our stay here much easier. Of course we have the usual technologies for communication enhancement of internet, cell phone, email, blogs, Face Book, Group Me, and now Face Time. For Avis, Group Me and Face Time are life savers as far as communication goes with our children and grandchildren. The connection to the internet is very good at our apartment as it is fiber optic.

Avis does Face Time in order to keep connected with her children in the USA.
Here she talks with daughter Diana Sturos of Fridley, Mn and grandsons Tristan and Garret.

It is a far cry from growing up in West Ishpeming in the 50's and 60's when not just anyone could use the ''party line." The youth of the neighborhood had an odd custom of communication. Odd I say because I've not run into anyone who ever heard of it. If one wanted to get together with his buddy he would 'walk' (it is an old word which means to go by foot) to the friend's house and 'call on them'. We took it literally. We actually called the person's name "Raymond!" "Johnny!" Sometimes I would stand outside a long time before anyone came to the door or before I came to realize no one was home! The next generation technology was knocking on the door and calling someone's name. Then came private telephone lines and here we are today.

Communication is still a challenge though. Just because an email or text message is sent or a Facebook message is posted doesn't mean the communication is complete or clear. We do tend to think so however. The best definition of communication I've run across is "mutual meaning creation." It pictures a back and forth interchange between persons until a meaning is established and agreed to.
So much of communication is body language and tone of voice.

Spiritually the most important message is that of forgiveness through the gospel of the forgiveness of sins. The means of communication is via the Holy Spirit.
